Mary 25th June 2020

To know Mr. John Leon Prom was to love and admire him. He was a singular person. The handsome gentleman with the genuine friendly smile . He was a highly educated man of discernment, and a consummate professional with impeccable reputation. John was the epitome of a family man, a loving husband, fond father, good brother to his siblings and cousins. He was an avuncular father figure to his nieces and nephews. John was a man of Faith who conducted his life with a sense of honour and fairness. He was a patriot, in whom love of country and service to others were instilled from childhood by his parents, Mr. Louis Leon Prom and his wife Mrs. Mary Prom. He embodied the spirit of service throughout his life, as many in the Gambian community will testify. Courtesy and consideration were a hallmark of John. He was not misogynistic towards women, indeed he treated them with brotherly affection as sisters. His elders received the honourifs of aunts and uncles from John. He was not envious, malicious, mean spirited or vainglorious. These attitudes were anathema to his nature. He would rather help than harm anyone. His character, temperament and helpfulness drew people of all ages to John, and formed lasting friendships with him. In him they found a loyal trustworthy friend, not a fair whether friend. John led a purposeful life with courage, dignity and humility. He trod the earth peacefully and in harmony with humanity. At the end of a life well lived, John Leon Jabel Prom left our world and it is sadder at his departure. There is much that youth can learn from the life of this illustrious son of The Gambia, in terms of nobility of character, self discipline, self motivation, self respect and respect for others, hard work and professionalism, integrity and service. John's life is a lasting legacy of which his family can be proud. My condolences to his good and gracious wife Pamela, his children Nini, Harry, Sukai Nellie, his siblings and all the Prom, the Lloyd Evans and Loum families. Requiescat in pacem
